Mr. Struggan's May Flowers Playlist

Hello there, Wilson here. Apologies for the long hiatus, but Mr. Struggan has been mostly unreachable the past month, so I haven’t had much to report. I’ve finally got back in touch with him in time to publish his May Flowers Playlist for your listening pleasure, while there is still enough May to go around. This second iteration of Mr. Struggan’s monthly playlists features a delicate aural balance between such artists as Coldplay, Beastie Boys (RIP MCA), Sublime, The Gipsy Kings, and more. Check the link above and enjoy.

Mr. Struggan’s Magnetic Poetry
Hello, Wilson here, with a new poem for Mr. Struggan’s Magnetic Poetry series. This little musing, Kafka-esque in it’s absurd premise and implications, made Mr. Struggan chuckle more than just a bit while he was composing it. Hopefully, it makes you chuckle, too.

Hello, Wilson here. After a long 12 days of Spring March Training Madnes, it is my sincere pleasure to announce, on Mr. Struggan’s behalf, the winner of the bracket:
EVERYONE IS A WINNER!
That’s right, folks. All of the 36 participating films have been deemed the winners of Mr. Struggan’s Spring March Training Madness Ultimate Movie Bracket! After thoughtful consideration, Mr. Struggan just couldn’t sit back and watch all of the great films in the competition lose and let only one win, so there you have it! Congratulations to all of our winners!
Mr. Struggan wishes to sincerely thank all of those who participated in the voting process. Your interest and enthusiasm was much appreciated. To those of you who didn’t actually participate, yet found it worth your while to cast votes regardless, well, whatever.
Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone!

Spring March Training Madness: The Championship Round
Hello, Wilson here. Voting in Mr. Struggan’s Spring March Training Madness Final Four ended last night, and voting is now live on Mr. Struggan’s Facebook Page for the Championship Round, where Spring Training and March Madness finally meet in a battle that will, considering how the bracket has gone so far, likely determine absolutely nothing.
Given what we have been left to consider, however, and without further pause, here are your Spring March Training Madness Finalists:
In one corner stands The Sandlot, David M. Evans’ classic 1993 film. It is no wonder why Mr. Struggan seeded this masterpiece with a first place ranking; though baseball is at the heart of the story, The Sandlot really traces a larger tale of the endless summers we all remember wasting away as children. It is this note of relatability that makes Scotty Smalls, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, The Beast, et al a group of immensely endearing characters in an immensely endearing film.
In the other corner stands Juwanna Mann.

Spring March Training Madness: The Final Four
Hello, Wilson here. The Elite Eight round of voting for Mr. Struggan’s Spring March Training Madness Ultimate Movie Bracket has come and gone, and the Final Four is officially underway at Mr. Struggan’s Facebook Page.
Highlights from the Elite Eight included Jimmy Dugan and his Peaches upsetting Nuke and Crash as #2 seed A League of Their Own overtook #1 seed Bull Durham by the slimmest of margins. Similarly, a lovable dog with an aptitude for nothing-but-net basketball is the man now, dog, having taken out Jamal Wallace and his reclusive literary genius friend as #4 seed Air Bud advanced in favor of #2 seed Finding Forrester.
On the landslide side of things, #1 seed The Sandlot easily took its place in the Final Four with a resounding victory over #2 Field of Dreams, while a bombastic public continued to prove that trolling is much more important to them than an topic exercise in competitive pop culture and bracketology, as #6 seed Juwanna Mann handed #4 Space Jam a loss.
Now it is on to our final two match-ups. Will the Ultimate Basketball Movie be epitomized by a canine phenom, or a crossdressing fraud? Will Benny the Jet reign as champ forrrrevvvverrrr, or will the Peaches bring the Ultimate Baseball Movie title to their own league? And most importantly, has Mr. Struggan lost his will to care yet? Only you can decide, so head over to Facebook and vote!

Hello, Wilson here. Amid the announcement that the Weinstein Company will be releasing it’s embattled documentary Bully unrated rather than accepting the MPAA’s decision to grant the film an R rating, Mr. Struggan took some time to watch IFC’s 2006 documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated. The film has been on Mr. Struggan’s watch list for quite a while, and filmmaker Kirby Dick did not disappoint with his explicative history of the MPAA, interspersed with informative interviews with filmmakers who have butted heads with the MPAA in the past and the adventures of the private investigator hired by Dick to discover the identities of the members of their clandestine rating board.

As the film points out, the manner in which the Hollywood studio system has colluded to protect itself by establishing the MPAA bares all the characteristics of a censorship cartel that does little to protect moviegoers, though the MPAA rating board champions itself as an ardent defender of family values. The arguments made in This Film is Not Yet Rated, combined with Dick’s attempts to troll the MPAA by asking them to rate a documentary about themselves, provide some clever and informative entertainment, and Mr. Struggan wholeheartedly suggests you take some time to watch it, especially with what the MPAA is doing in an attempt to censor Bully needlessly.

Spring March Training Madness: The Elite Eight
Hello, Wilson here. I am pleased (yet not so pleased) to announce, on Mr. Struggan’s behalf, the victors of the Sweet Eighteen round of voting in Mr. Struggan’s Spring March Training Madness Ultimate Movie Bracket, and the commencement of voting for The Elite Eight.
The Baseball corner of the bracket is advancing as expected, with Mr. Struggan’s #1 and #2 seeds claiming victory over their competition. It is still left to be seen who can claim the title of Ultimate Baseball Movie, however, with thrilling match-ups between Bull Durham and A League of Their Own and The Sandlot and Field of Dreams yet to be played out.
The Basketball corner is advancing with a bit more intrigue, however, as onslaughts of troll voters continue to rally in support of Juwanna Mann. After some dramatic upsets, Space Jam, Juwanna Mann, Air Bud, and Finding Forrester are now left to compete for the title of Ultimate Basketball Movie.
Finally, without further ado, I direct you to Mr. Struggan’s Facebook Page, where voting is open for the Elite Eight round.
